Pastoral Assistants
‘Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of god’s grace in its various forms.’
1 Peter 4:10 NIV
Pastoral Assistants (PA’s) are trained and authorized to engage in pastoral ministry on behalf of the local church working as part of a team of clergy. PA’s are commissioned to conduct particular pastoral tasks, inside and outside of the church, under the direction of other ministers. They are called to represent the love of God and God’s care for the whole person and creation.
They may work with children and young people, the sick, the recently bereaved and the housebound. All PA’s focus on pastoral care, but an individuals’ ministry varies according to their gifts and skills and the local situation.
In all cases the ministry calls for a loving and compassionate heart, and a willingness to listen and support those in need. Their core tasks are to listen, to pray for and be present with people.
PA’s may be involved in:
· Welcoming newcomers to both our churches and our communities
· Visiting families before and after baptism
· Work with children and young people
· Marriage preparation
· Hospital visiting
· Visiting people in their homes [not just the elderly and housebound]
· Supporting the bereaved
· Prayer and healing ministry
· Hospitality
· Training and nurture, including confirmation preparation & home groups
· Evangelism, including Alpha groups
· Participating in worship
If you would like to speak to a PA, or if you know of someone in the Mission Area who would like to become a PA them, please contact Miss Enid Littler via this link for further details.
If you would like a visit and/or communion at home, please contact us and one of the team will arrange a time to call.
